Drei Jahre, nachdem Santana ein Album mit seiner Woodstock-Urbesetzung veröffentlichte, meldet sich der virtuose Musiker und Sänger 2019 mit neuer Band und neuem Album zurück.

»Africa Speaks« heißt die Platte, die er zusammen mit Produzentenlegende Rick Rubin in dessen Shangri-La Studios in Malibu aufnahm.

Innerhalb von nur zehn Tagen spielten sie insgesamt 49 Stücke ein, viele in einem Take. Elf schafften es schließlich auf »Africa Speaks«.

Unterstützt wurde Carlos Santana im Studio von einer achtköpfigen Band, darunter auch seine Frau Cindy Blackman Santana am Schlagzeug. Als Gastsängerinnen sind Concha Buika und Laura Mvula zu hören.

Das Resultat ist eine spannende Mischung aus Rock, Latin und Jazz mit, der Albumtitel verrät es bereits, großen Einflüssen afrikanischer Musik.
